Valentine’s Day DIY Decor

As Valentine’s Day approaches, there’s no better way to celebrate the season of love than by decorating your home with fun, DIY crafts. Whether you’re planning a romantic night with your special someone, a themed party with friends or a night of self-care to spoil yourself, this easy DIY wall decor idea will add a touch of love to every corner of your space.

When it comes to holidays, I have the most fun time shopping at Goodwill for home goods that can elevate my themed decor setup. You can find some of the cutest treasures, like this vintage Mickey and Minnie Mouse sweetheart coffee and tea setup pictured above! You can also find some unique items that can inspire a fun DIY project for when you get home.

Holidays are a great time to shop secondhand and craft your own decor with upcycled materials versus buying new from a retail store. Not only does this make your holiday more affordable, but it also reduces landfill waste because shopping secondhand drives less demand for new production and saves items from going to the dump. Each year, Goodwill recovers close to four billion pounds of used goods, including clothes, shoes and housewares. By selling them in stores and online, Goodwill is able to divert these items from going to the landfill while also giving them a second life.

DIY Valentine’s Day Frames

It’s exciting to see all the different ways Goodwill shoppers around the country upcycle their Goodwill thrift store finds to create something beautiful and truly unique for their space. Credit for the tutorial below goes to @molliedaniela, who made these adorable coquette wall frames out of materials thrifted from Goodwill.

Materials Needed: Frames (heart-shaped is ideal, but you can get creative with what you find!); Scrapbook paper; Paintbrush; Pink paint; Scissors

Step 1: Head to your local Goodwill store and browse the home goods section for frames or other materials that could work as a frame structure.

Step 2: Brush frames with your desired shade of pink paint — three layers are the charm. Make sure the paint is dry between each layer, either by waiting or using a hair dryer. Then, let dry fully overnight.

Step 3: Cut out scrapbook paper to match the shape of the frames. Bonus points if the paper matches the holiday you are decorating for — like Valentine’s Day! This is a great project to update for each holiday, making it even more sustainable.

Step 4: Adhere the paper to the inside of the frame, secure and hang it on the walls around your home for your own unique decor flair! This is a great way to craft unique frames to hold homemade cross-stitch pieces and artwork, too!
