2009 Employee of Distinction Awards

Congratulations to the 2009 Award Winners!

MEDIA RELEASES:   Summit County>>  Medina County>>  Portage County>>

A total of 58 outstanding employees from Summit, Medina, and Portage County employers were recognized and 9 individuals were revealed as winners of the “Employee of Distinction Award” at Goodwill Industries Employee of Distinction Luncheons on September 9-11, 2009.

The luncheons are Goodwill’s signature employee recognition events for small- and medium-sized businesses. Nominations of stellar employees, submitted by nominees’ supervisors and/or co-workers, were reviewed by a panel of local HR professionals. Judged blindly with the nominees’ names and companies omitted, judges were asked to select their top choices based on Quality of Work; Dedication to the Business; and Extraordinary Efforts. Individuals with the highest average rankings received an “Employee of Distinction Award,” and the winners were kept a surprise and revealed at each luncheon.

At each luncheon, an emcee and radio personality from Rubber City radio stations (including Sandra Miller, 97.5 WONE; Scott Wynn, 94.9 WQMX; and Chuck Collins, 1590 WAKR) read highlights from each of the nominees’ nomination forms as they received a certificate commemorating their nomination and two free tickets to a performance at Akron’s historic Civic Theater. In addition, the winners were given an engraved Bulova clock from Shulan’s Jewelers.

Two luncheons also featured a keynote address by a local business leader. In Summit County, Russell M. Pry, Summit County Executive, engaged the audience in a discussion on collaborations. In Medina County, Jon W. Park, President of Westfield Bank, discussed the importance of investing in people. In Portage County, Goodwill presented a fashion show of work wear through the decades.

Nancy Ellis McClenaghan, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries, commented on the success of the events, stating, “We are truly inspired by the nominees’ work ethic and dedication. They are all such wonderful role models for their co-workers and all those around them. Goodwill is pleased to once again help employers showcase their top-performers and their Shining Stars.”
