December brings us to the final month of the 12 Months of Thrifting challenge. It has been a fun year exploring ways to build an essential wardrobe of thrifted items. The goal of this challenge was two-fold: to build functional, practical, and affordable wardrobes while honing our thrifting skills by taking small steps, month by month.
Looking back at the last twelve months, consider how this challenge has helped you. Did you find yourself repeatedly wearing the items on this list? How much money did you save thrifting these essential items? For me, I can say with confidence I wore these pieces time and time again. Let’s take a look to compare what this would have cost at a moderately priced, regular retail store:
January: Cozy Sweater
Goodwill price: $3
Average regular retail price: $20
February: Striped Tee
Goodwill price: $2
Average regular retail price: $15
March: Black or Navy Blazer
Thrifted price: $4
Average regular retail price: $30
April: Trench / Utility Jacket
Goodwill price: $6
Average regular retail price: $40
May: Maxi Skirt / Dress
Goodwill price: $1.50
Average regular retail price: $25
June: Denim Shirt
Goodwill price: $2
Average regular retail price: $15
July: Simple Black Dress
Goodwill price: $4
Average regular retail price: $25
August: Leather Jacket
Goodwill price: $4
Average regular retail price: $30
September: Booties
Goodwill price: $2-$8
Average regular retail price: $30
October: Fall Florals
Goodwill price: $2 dress
Average regular retail price: $20
November: Bright / Bold Scarf
Goodwill price: $1
Average regular retail price: $10
December: Tote Bag in a neutral color
Goodwill price: $10
Average regular retail price: $30
That’s about $235 in savings! Think I’ll tuck this away in our vacation fund!
I’m excited to launch Part II of this challenge with Goodwill Akron next year. Look for a new schedule in the coming weeks and don’t forget, you can still chip away at this list even if you didn’t have a chance to participate in 2016.
