GOODWILL TO HOST PUBLIC EVENTS TO CELEBRATE
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES WEEK MAY 1 – 7

CELEBRATION OF CHAMPIONS PRESENTATION AND PUBLIC OPEN HOUSES ON THE SCHEDULE

 

AKRON, Ohio—April 21, 2011— Goodwill Industries, serving Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland Counties, will host several “Celebration of Champions” presentations and public open houses during Goodwill Industries Week in May.

Goodwill will honor successful program participants as well as employers from across the region and  community partners at  “Celebration of Champions” recognition events throughout the week.  President & CEO Nancy Ellis McClenaghan will be the featured speaker, and information about Goodwill and services that the agency provides to residents of its five-county region will be highlighted.

In all, 21 honorees will be celebrated.  Event dates and locations include the following:

On Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., the following honorees will be recognized at a ceremony held at the Mansfield Goodwill Retail Store at 2154 W. Fourth St., Ontario.  Following the short program, staff will provide behind the scene tours of the processing area to show how Goodwill turns jeans into jobs.

Richland County Program Participant & Employers

•  Nancy Coffman, Jeromesville  •  CVS/Pharmacy, Maple Heights •  Richland Newhope, Mansfield

On Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 8:00 a.m., the following honorees will be recognized at a ceremony held at the Brunswick Goodwill Retail Store at 1733 Pearl Road, Brunswick. Following the short program, staff will provide behind the scene tours of the processing area to show how Goodwill turns jeans into jobs.

Medina County Program Participants, Employers & Community Partners

On Thursday, May 5, 2011 at noon, the following honorees will be recognized at a ceremony held at the Kent/Ravenna Goodwill Retail Store at 2528 State Route 59, Kent.  Following the short program, staff will provide behind the scene tours of the processing area to show how Goodwill turns jeans into jobs.

Portage County Program Participants

On Friday, May 6, 2011, beginning at 12:30 p.m., the following honorees will be recognized at the Goodwill Service Center in Akron, 570 E. Waterloo Rd.  Following the short program, staff will provide behind the scene tours of the processing area to show how Goodwill turns jeans into jobs.

Summit County Program Participants, Employers & Community Partners

Additional behind-the-scenes tours at 570 E. Waterloo Rd. in Akron are also being offered on Thursday, May 5, 2011, from 3-6pm; and Friday, May 6, 2011, from 1:30-3:30pm; and Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 11am-2pm, to showcase how Goodwill turns jeans into jobs.

Guests will visit Goodwill’s main warehouse where they will see first-hand the process for accepting, sorting, selling, salvaging and recycling donations. Goodwill staff members will be on hand to answer questions about the process and about Goodwill’s mission of helping people prepare for, find and retain employment.

Tours will begin every 15 minutes. No RSVP is required to attend either the Celebration of Champions presentations or an open house. Questions can be directed to Brenda Baum, Communications Manager, at 330-786-2519 or bbaum@goodwillakron.org.

Goodwill operates 12 stores in its five-county region encompassing Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland, and Richland Counties. Net proceeds from the sale of items donated to the stores are used in assisting the agency in fulfilling its mission of helping individuals prepare for, find and retain employment.
