Dashing Through the Thrift: Six items that require minimal effort to find at Goodwill

I’ve spent the last decade encouraging folks to embrace the value and benefit of thrift shopping. During this time, I’ve come across dozens of people who are intrigued by the idea of thrift shopping but aren’t quite ready to dive in head first and make it a lifestyle. Not to mention, some people just don’t have the time or energy to spend hours in a Goodwill. The good news is: you don’t have to! The best way to get your thrifty feet wet is to start by adding what I like to call, a “dash of thrift” to your existing home decor and wardrobe. These are items that require minimal effort to find at Goodwill but add just the right amount of style and character to your home and wardrobe, without having to break the bank.

Wall Art

Wall art requires very minimal effort to thrift. They are usually stacked nicely against a wall for easy browsing. Because art is so subjective, it’s the kind of thing that will automatically stand out in an otherwise packed aisle.

Glassware

Whether you’re into quirky, classic or vintage glassware, these items are among the easiest to find at thrift stores and add the perfect touch to your home for entertaining or curling up on the couch with a hot mug of tea!

Seasonal Items

Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall, Goodwill has it all! Be on the lookout for seasonal vases or planters and fill them with flowers for a hostess gift anytime of year. Or add some secondhand style to your mantle, bookshelf or front door with seasonal home accessories like winter or spring wreaths, picture frames, and baskets.  During the holiday season look for ornaments, holiday decor, stockings, snow globes, village sets, wall hangings, and holiday gift toppers.

Home Accessories

Look for mirrors, lamps, wall hangings, frames, candles, baskets, and more to add your existing home decor without breaking the bank.

Dresses

If you don’t have a lot of time to thrift, browse the dresses. They are easy to style, just add accessories from your existing wardrobe and you’re out the door with a dash of thrift!

Coats & Blazers

This is by far one of the easiest ways to add a secondhand touch to any outfit. Browsing the coats requires hardly any effort at all.  Style them with clothes already in your closet and be prepared to wear them for years to come!

Scarves

I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought a scarf that wasn’t from Goodwill! Goodwill carries tons of winter, silk, or small neck scarves. There are lots of tutorials online that can provide helpful styling ideas. Add them to an existing outfit for an effortlessly chic look.
