Hello thrifty friends! Last month in my thrifted home series, we focused on decluttering. Now it’s time to organize. But you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars at a fancy specialty container store or order a bunch of things online. You can thrift tons of things to help organize your home. You just need a little imagination, creativity and a trip to the thrift store.

The number 1 thrift store staple you can always find is baskets.
They are a great way to corral your things and help keep your space clutter-free. You can use baskets in almost every room of your home. I love using baskets near my entryway to catch mail. I used a basket under my coffee table for my kids’ drawing supplies. And behind my toilet to hold extra toilet paper. Baskets full price can blow your decor budget, so why not thrift them instead?

Glass containers, jars and vases. Glassware in general is another thrift store staple and an elegant and chic way to organize. Think of a crystal bowl to catch your rings and lip balm on your bedside table. A beautiful crystal wine glass or vase could be a fun way to hold your jewelry. Glass jars with lids are nice to contain anything from silk scarves on your dresser to coffee pods in your kitchen. I use a glass jar with a cork lid for my cotton pads in my bathroom. Glass containers are great to add a spa-like vibe to a bathroom. You can usually thrift them for less than $5.
Utilize your vertical space with shelves. Solid wooden shelves are great to thrift and easy to customize and diy to fit your decor style. With a little sandpaper, stain, or paint, you can transform any thrifted shelf. You can add shelves behind your toilet for more storage. These are great in a drop zone near your door with added hooks. Shelves are great for a kid’s room to display artwork and books. Honestly, you can add shelves to any empty wall for more storage. I recently scored a shelf at the Goodwill Akron Streetsboro location. I think it will be great to store my shoes there.
Speaking of hooks, you can find so many styles of decorative and functional hooks. Under a shelf, as mentioned above, for an entryway to hang coats and bookbags. You can add hooks to the back of a closet door to hang bags, scarves, or hats. You can add hooks in your bathroom to hang your bath towels. I see a lot of fun styling with wooden hooks. Wooden hooks can always be painted or stained. Metal hooks can be spray-painted or add rub n buff for a metallic finish.

Yes, you can find items that can serve as storage and organizational solutions at the thrift store. But you can find actual organizers, too. My best thrifted organizer finds were 3 stackable clear drawers. Originally from the container store. The tags were still attached. It has been great for storing and organizing our medication and my daughter’s hair products and bows. I also have thrifted desk organizers for my son’s desk. I’ve seen big storage bins, utensil organizers and even drawer organizers. Anything in your online cart, I promise with patience and determination you can thrift it and find it secondhand. Save money while getting organized.
