I hit the racks at Goodwill Akron on Waterloo Road to help shopper, Tiffani find items to match her style within her $45 budget. Based on my conversations with Tiffani, I knew she wanted a mix of bright and bold casual pieces, mostly shirts, in addition to professional attire she can wear to her new internship this fall.
She had me at bright and bold. I love prints and bold colors so shopping for Tiffani was a lot like shopping for myself. Needless to say, I had a really great time prepping for our session. Keeping in mind that Tiffani is a mother of two with a lot of commitments, I started with casual comfy shirts that she could easily throw on in the summer and layer in the fall.
We were both thrilled with the $5 floral and striped top (new with tags) paired with $5 skinny jeans that seemed to fit perfectly.
Based on Tiffani’s style assessment prior to the session, I learned that she both loves and feels most confident in the color purple so I tried to keep an eye out for pretty purples. She was very pleased with this $3 easy floral summer shirt. It’s important to seek the colors and patterns that you feel most comfortable in because if you look good, you feel good!
Next, I found a J.Crew paisley dress that I paired with a cream cardigan and $3 burgundy flats. This look is perfect for her internship, summer party or lunch with friends. I still can’t believe we scored a $70+ dress for less than $5. You can be faced with styling limitations when it comes to bold prints so make sure you can think of at least three different ways to wear a printed piece before you buy it. We decided that Tiffani can wear this dress as it is in the summer, with a cardigan in the fall, and with tights and a blazer in the winter.
Because Tiffani said she likes prints and colors, I thought I’d throw in a few vintage maxi skirts to the collection to see if she’d be open to them. I knew we shared similar tastes when she selected a beautiful pleated skirt that can be worn with a dozen colors.
Tiffani was so great to work with and we were both thrilled when she went home with 13 items without exceeding her budget.
Spending a total of $40, Tiffani went home with:
- A pair of flats
- A pair of wedged sandals
- Two blazers
- A J.Crew dress
- A vintage maxi skirt
- Four shirts (including New York & Company, Isaac Mizrahi, and Target brand shirts)
- Two sweaters
- One pair of jeans
Happy Thrifting!
