#12MonthsofThrifting Challenge: Statement Necklace

If I had to choose one piece of jewelry as a wardrobe staple, it would be a statement necklace. That’s why we included it as September’s 12 Months of Thrifting prompt. Just like scarves, statement necklaces are the perfect way to add an interesting element to your look. They are great conversation pieces and not to mention, they make you feel and look pretty! Bold necklaces draw attention to your face and are surprisingly not as complicated to incorporate into your outfit as they may seem. In fact, my favorite way to wear a statement necklace is by pairing it with a simple outfit, like a solid colored dress or with jeans and a sweater or tee.

Statement necklaces come in all shapes and sizes and never really go out of style. So play around with some styles until you find one that you feel comfortable wearing. I personally like big, chunky necklaces that graze my neckline. If those styles are too bold or heavy for you, opt for a long pendant necklace like the one I’m wearing here.

Keeping your neckline in mind is very important when it comes to statement necklaces. I love this resource on how to pick the right necklace for your neckline.

Thrifting a statement necklace is a great way to get your feet wet if you’re new to thrift shopping. I love buying my necklaces from Goodwill  because I always find a mix of new and vintage styles at a fraction of the retail cost. You’ll always find a great selection of necklaces and other jewelry at shopgoodwill.com and blue (a Goodwill boutique in downtown Akron).  At retail locations, when the stores have jewelry, it’s located in the front near the check-out, with some in display cases.  If you’re not sure where the jewelry is at your local Goodwill Akron store, simply ask a store associate and they can help you!
