Volunteer Opportunities

Opportunities are available for groups, individuals or youth (minimum age 16). Special projects can be arranged for groups as needed, and written confirmation of hours is also available. A 1-1/2 hour orientation is required for adult and youth volunteers. Clerical/Office Volunteer

Weekdays 8AM-5PM

Volunteers should have the ability to work independently and have computer skills, including Microsoft Windows and Excel. This opportunity takes place within the administration department at Waterloo Road and at the Employment Resource Center. Minimum age: 18.

WEYE- Seeing Eye Radio of Goodwill Industries Akron

7AM-7PM Monday; 7AM-5PM Tuesday; 7AM-8PM Wednesday; 7AM-6:30PM Thursday; 7AM-12PM Friday & Sunday.

Volunteer reads newspapers, magazines. and books to be recorded then broadcasted over the radio to visually impaired and physically disabled individuals. Opportunity is available at Waterloo Road facility. Minimum age: 18.

Participant Mentor

Weekdays 9AM-2PM

Opportunity is available to college students participating in a qualified field observation course. Volunteers serve as mentors to vocational services participants by working alongside them and assisting them with job-related duties. Volunteers should have experience working with individuals with disabilities and have the ability to work independently. Minimum age:18.

Volunteer Baler

Monday-Saturday 9AM-6PM

Opportunity available at Waterloo Road facility. Volunteer will assist with baling textiles and cardboard, which would include loading the items into a baling machine, band the items and document weight of bales. The textiles consist of clothing, etc. that due to the condition of the item(s) don’t meet Goodwill standard to be sold in retail stores- they are then baled and sold to salvage companies to pass onto those who can benefit from the items. Must have basic math skills and have full use of body, capable of lifting, carrying, etc.; Must be able to operate counterbalance scale to weigh bales and have the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Minimum age: 21.

Volunteer Merchandise/Donation Handler

Monday-Saturday 9AM-8PM, Sunday 10AM-6PM

Assist with inspecting donations, tagging, hanging and sorting clothing; pricing and displaying items on sales floor and/or pulling older items off display and replacing with newer items. Opportunity available at all Goodwill locations. Groups of 10 to 12 can be accommodated. Minimum age: 16.

Volunteer Shipping & Handling Clerk

Weekdays 9AM-4PM

Assist in packaging & shipping materials, printing labels, locating order forms, identifying items to be shipped and other office/ clerical assignments. Volunteers should be familiar with shipping procedures. Have some retail experience and an awareness of quality merchandise. Opportunity is available at the Waterloo Road facility. Minimum age: 18.
