#12MonthsofThrifting: Denim Shirt Three Ways

A denim shirt, also referred to as a chambray is one of the most essential pieces of any wardrobe, both for men and women. My obsession with denim shirts started about six years ago when I found the perfect GAP denim button down at Goodwill. I quickly realized how incredibly versatile they are. They are also easy to wear and never go out of style.

It’s easy to find chambray shirts at Goodwill because they sort their shirts by style and color so you’ll find that all the denim shirts are organized on a rack next to each other. Simply head to either the long sleeve or sleeveless shirt section,  then look for the denim shirts.

I like to keep three denim shirts on hand, and at less than $5 a shirt, that’s totally doable. I keep one loose boyfriend style for casual wear, one fitted shirt to wear with full skirts or pencil skirts for work, and one vintage sleeveless shirt.

There’s tons of inspiration online for denim shirts. I thrifted each of these denim shirts from Goodwill anywhere from $1 to $2. These are just three of dozens of ways I wear my chambrays!

For the first look, I paired the sleeveless shirt with a thrifted maxi skirt. I tied the shirt at the waist for a more relaxed look. You can also button the shirt all the way up for a vintage vibe. I thrifted this shirt for $2 at Goodwill on Waterloo.

I like to think of chambray as a neutral,  that’s why it’s so versatile. If you’re wearing something loud or bold, tone it down with a denim shirt. That’s what I did with the blue maxi skirt and this floral mini skirt. This Banana Republic skirt was $5 from Goodwill, the shirt was $2.

Lastly, for a relaxed weekend look, I usually throw on a loose boyfriend style chambray. Don’t be afraid to pair denim with denim. It’s incredibly chic and effortless! Another way I love to wear this shirt is by layering it with a graphic tee and leaving the denim shirt unbuttoned to expose the tee. Grab a cross body bag or back pack and flats and you’re ready to hit the thrift stores comfortably!

Be sure to add a denim shirt to your thrift wish list this June as part of the 12 Months of Thrifting Challenge. This challenge is designed to help you build a thrifted wardrobe, month by month. Share your finds using the tag #12MonthsofThrifting on social media.
