Seven months into the #12MonthsofThrifting Challenge and I’m starting to notice a reoccurring theme in my posts:

Despite the lack of variety in posts, my constant ravings further prove that this challenge has been instrumental in building a wardrobe of essential pieces that take the stress out of everyday style.
This month we’re focusing on thrifting a black dress. It’s no surprise that the LBD (little black dress) is an essential item for any closet. Thrifting a black dress is easy; there are literally dozens of black dresses to choose from at Goodwill Akron stores.
A fashion icon, a black dress is truly a timeless piece. They are elegant and versatile and cost around $6 at Goodwill Akron stores. Add a 20% coupon after donating an item to any Goodwill location or drop off center and you’ve got yourself a classic piece that will arguably go farther than any other item in your closet.
Here’s how to make the most out of your thrifted black dress:
- Select a simple, basic, and even plain style. There are dozens and dozens of styles out there, but for the sake of this challenge we’re focusing on a simple black dress. This leaves room for endless accessorizing possibilities. Consider a style that can transition to all seasons or two simple dresses (one for fall / winter and one for spring / summer).
- Accessorize: Think of a black dress as blank canvas. Use this canvas to accessorize with jewelry, scarves, brooches, tights, shoes, shawls, and purses. Accessorizing a black dress differently will feel like a brand new outfit every time!
