Shopping secondhand has not only completely changed where I shop, but also how I think about buying things in general. After spending years making secondhand a lifestyle, and countless hours browsing the aisles at Goodwill, I’ve created a mental list of things I simply don’t buy new anymore because I’ve learned I can almost always find them secondhand.

In honor of Earth Month, here’s a list of 10 things I never buy new anymore, because I can find them at Goodwill!
- Storage Items: This is one of those things that can get expensive quickly when you’re organizing a space, but at Goodwill, there’s usually a shelf full of options in different sizes and styles.
- Kids & Coffee Table Books: There’s always a rotating selection at Goodwill, and I especially love searching the Outlet Store for great bargains.

- Candles & Candle Holders: Unused candles show up more often than you’d think at Goodwill!

- Lamps: The easiest way to find a unique style for a fraction of the price is at Goodwill.

- Frames: Whether I’m styling a gallery wall or a single frame, I always check Goodwill first for affordable options.
- Mugs: There’s so much variety and it’s easy to find ones that feel personal.
- Board Games: Secondhand games are often in great condition and perfect for rotating when our family outgrows.
- Small Kitchen Appliances: Many small kitchen appliances are barely used, especially if there were once a popular trending item, making Goodwill my first stop before buying something new.
- Seasonal Decor: Seasonal decor is often used for such a short time and is constantly being donated so I’ll often find new and vintage decor items to match my taste.
- Snow Gear: It’s easy to find gently used snowsuits and boots for the whole family all year long!
What started as a way to save money has turned into a habit of checking Goodwill first, especially for everyday things I know I’ll come across again. It’s a slower, more intentional way of shopping that has helped me fill my home and closets with things I actually use and love.
As we celebrate Earth Month, head to Goodwill and remember that not everything needs to be new to be enjoyed!
