Planning My Entryway Makeover

It’s another month, which means it’s time to recap and update you all on the thrifted home project. We started off decluttering.  Decluttering is an ongoing process, but every day we make more progress. After decluttering, you must organize, and last month, I shared all the organizers you can thrift. And since I have been able to put my recent finds to good use in my coat closet.

Next, I want to focus on an area of my home that is a total eyesore: my entryway. It just has a bamboo shoe rack and rug, but to be honest, I hate it. There are too many shoes. And there is no space to put our bags.  So, I have in mind creating an entryway. I need shoe storage and a place to hang our bags while adding some architectural interest to my blank wall.

Here’s my mood board!

I love the texture that the beadboard and slatted wall offer, and the shelf that can be decorated. The functional hooks are something I desperately need. I love the bench with storage for putting on shoes.

I ran into Goodwill Streetsboro’s new location and picked up a white wood shelf and some small decorative vases that match our current color scheme. I’m still on the hunt for hooks and a shoe cabinet or bench. I can also shop my house and see if the benches I already have could work.

Here are a few of my tips for a thrifted room makeover.

Put together a mood board and get inspired. Pick out the elements you want to add to your own home. Create a shopping list/thrift wish list with those items.

Measure your space and bring a tape measure with you when you shop. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than bringing home an amazing find, only to discover it doesn’t fit.

When you’re thrifting for home decor, go often and check different locations. I am always running into Goodwill after work.

Be patient! When you’re thrifting for your home, it takes time, and it’s a process.

Here is what is on my thrift wish list

  • Wall hooks,
  • Shoe cabinet or storage bench
  • Small rug
  • Decor bowl or dish for keys and a basket for mail. I will be shopping at my home as well.
  • Small artwork

I took a trip to The Home Depot for some beadboard sheets, and I got some molding. Along with paint batches. I hope I can thrift the knobs I need. This is just phase 1 of the entryway makeover. If all goes well next month, I should have a finished entryway to share.
