Thrift Your Next Concert Outfit

Summer may be coming to a close, but we are still deep into festival and concert season. It’s my favorite time to experience live music, eat good food and just enjoy the outdoors. Not to mention put together an expressive outfit that still allows me the funds to buy concert merch. We have some amazing artists on tours that are stopping in Ohio. Here are some fun concert looks I found at Goodwill’s Twinsburg location that you can wear to your next show.

Avril Lavigne is having me relive my teenage glory years with her Greatest Hits tour. The nostalgia was in the air as her song “Complicated” came on the radio in the store. I could just feel that I was going to find the perfect pop-punk princess pieces. Here are some looks that will have you looking like a sk8ter girl.

What to look for: Oversized graphic or band tees are a great base. Avril is definitely a fan of an all-black look with pops of color. Add in the occasional plaid for a dose of punk rock flare. Don’t forget those rocker elements like studded hardware, combat boots and thick belts. Add layers of silver necklaces for a hint of glam rock. Revive your inner sk8ter girl with sneakers. Add a cut off denim vest, black hoodie or leather jacket to complete the grunge vibe.

Dan + Shay give casual country vibes all the way, but with a little twist. Even in a basic T-shirt and jeans, they still manage to add in some fun elements like texture or prints. It may be country, but you can think outside of the box of just adding a cowboy hat and boots.

What to look for: Denim is a great base and distressed cut off shorts are a staple for any country fit. You can do a fun graphic tee and layer a coordinating long-sleeve shirt on top. Adding a cowboy hat & boots is a given, but you may not find that right away. You can still achieve the look with western style boots and a trucker hat. If you’re more of a girly aesthetic, go for a country chic dress with leather accessories. Like a woven belt and bag with western buckle details. Even a tank can give off the country vibes with the right accessories. This one from WE THE FREE brand had the same exposed seams and mixed texture stripes that was similar to a shirt I saw Shay wear.

You can’t go anywhere without hearing Sabrina Carpenter songs playing. I’m so excited she’s stopping in Columbus on tour. Sabrina’s style has been described as a real life Bratz doll. Though she might be small in stature her style makes a big impact on and off the stage. Here are a few things to look for when channeling your inner Sabrina.

What to look for: Anything glitz glam, think glitter, sequins and jewels. The first dress I found and boots are definitely for the girl who wants to stand out. Sabrina is a big fan of mini dresses. I think she would approve of the sequins and feathered skirt with these amazing glittery boots. A shimmer jumpsuit is also a great option to make a statement with comfort in mind. Pair it with platforms to channel that Bratz energy. Sabrina also has a feminine side to her style as well. She is often spotted wearing white, baby pink, light blue, and pastel yellow. Think sweetheart necklines, lace and ruffles. Corsets tops with puffy sleeves and skirt details can also give off that feminine aesthetic.

When I think of John Legend, I think classic and elegant. John himself always looks cool and dapper while effortlessly put together. When he performs on stage, he’s usually in a suit that’s well tailored but with playful elements or pops of color. John will be performing with the Cleveland orchestra at Blossom music center. It’s a great outdoor venue for an elegant evening.

What to look for: This is definitely more of a chic event. Being outside you want to be comfy but still put together.  A jumpsuit is a great option. It’s a one and done outfit that can easily be dressed up with accessories. Whether you’re on the lawn or have a pavilion seat, sturdy footwear is a must. So opt for a wedge or block heel. You can stand out with a fun color like this red dress and though the silhouette is simple the pleats add an elegant touch. Pair with neutral shoes and a clutch or evening bag of your choice.

If you really want to turn up the volume, add in a litter shimmer or sequin in a comfortable fabric. The all-black sequin dress still gives off chic and sophisticated but the shine of the sequins along with the flounce detail in front adds a lot of interest and fun. You can go the metallic route with the bronze version I found. It has a classic v neckline, but the gathered draped skirt will look stunning on any body type. A long sleeve dress is a great option for cooler temps after the sun goes down.

I hope this inspires you to shop secondhand when looking for your next festival or concert look.

Happy thrifting everyone!
