Craft Night Out: No-sew T-shirt Bag

Hi everyone, Abby here!  I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer!  I’m back again to share another super easy DIY with you all: the No-sew T-shirt bag.

In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, my husband and I have been accumulating reusable bags to use for everything.  Generally, we use ours for grocery shopping (some stores even give you a discount for bringing your own bags!), but they also come in handy for other stuff: a trip to the library, a carryall for your pool items, or even a lunch bag.  T-shirts make a great reusable bag because they are machine washable and totally customizable.

For those of you that can join us, I’ll be hosting another Craft Night Out with Goodwill at the Wadsworth location on August 27 from 6-7:30 p.m., where we’ll be making our own no-sew T-shirt bags.

However, for those of you that can’t join us, read on for how to make your own no sew T-shirt bag!

Supplies Needed:

  1. A T-shirt (one/bag)
  2. Scissors

A1

I chose an old Cavs scrimmage T-shirt for my first bag – let’s keep that winning feeling going for as long as we can, right?

First, cut the sleeves and neckline off of your T-shirt.  For the neckline cut, feel free to use a bowl as the template for this opening, or just free hand it.  I free hand cut mine.

Next, you’ll cut fringe.  I cut the bottom hem of my T-shirt off, and then cut fringe every inch or so.  Cut both the front and the back of the T-shirt together, as they’ll have to line up for later.

A2

After you’ve made all of your cuts, you’ll just tie the front piece of the T-Shirt to the back piece.  If you want a sturdier bottom, go ahead and tie alternating pieces together to fill in any gaps that may occur.

A3

Tie all of the pieces until you are finished.

Once you’ve made all of your ties, you are all set!  I filled my bag with my leftover craft supplies.

A6

And since this is such an easy project, why not make a few?

A7

If you’d rather not have a fringe on the bottom of your bag, just turn your T-shirt inside out before tying the knots.

See below for details on the workshop and the link to register.  Hope to see you there!
