How to Reuse Glass Baby Food Jars

(or any jars for that matter!)

Every time I feed my son baby food I always hesitate to throw the glass jars away- They are so stinkin’ cute and I was thinking there had to be a good way to recycle and repurpose them! There are many many ways if you do a quick google search, but here are a couple ways I tried.

**Side note, this project quickly became a lot more trouble than I anticipated. Getting the sticky stuff off from under the label turned into a multi-day affair and my first attempt at tinting the jars was not as successful as I hoped. But such is life, you’re doing great, sis! (hehe)

My first attempt at repurposing these for home décor was to tint the jars using mod podge and food coloring. Seemed simple enough- until it wasn’t. I think I needed a bit more patience when I was doing this- but it is a really cool way to reuse ANY glass jar!

STEP 1: Remove label and sticky residue. While a hot soapy water bath may work for some, I handed this part over to my husband who took these babies right out to the barn and soaked them with brake parts cleaner. That did the trick very well.

STEP 2: Make sure the jars are clean and dry. In a separate tub, mix mod podge and desired food coloring. Add water for lighter coloring. (I got a little hasty in this part which probably contributed to my failed attempt at this. Be careful not to add too much water, but if the coating is so dark you can’t see through it, it also won’t turn out right).

STEP 3: Pour some of the mixture into each jar. Add the lid back on and shake them so that the whole inside is coated in the mod podge mixture. The left one did end up way too dark, and the right one wasn’t quite enough. Shoot for somewhere in between

STEP 4: Remove lid and place upside down on a paper towel for about 1 hour.

STEP 5: Bake for about 20 minutes at 225. Once the time is up, turn the oven off and let the jars cool slowly inside. (This is where I was also a bit impatient- My jars did not look as evenly tinted as I would have liked).

STEP 6: SPRAY PAINT with a pretty metallic if this did not go to plan  HEHE ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is how I styled mine, but the possibilities are ENDLESS!
