So Cheesy…

SO CHEESY…

I’ve apparently started a collection of cheese domes. I’ve had an idea in my head for a year or so to turn them into something… well… something… not so cheesy. I kept seeing them at Goodwill and other thrift stores, and I couldn’t resist. I… just… kept… buying… them.

Being that it’s 2013 and my motto is “Less Talking, More Doing,” It was about time I gave some new life to these ol’ things. Here’s my DIY project:

Step 1: Head to Goodwill and pick up a cheese dome and a candle holder.

Step 2: Paint the cheese dome base and candle holder – I did about 3 coats.

Step 3: Once both are dry, do a light sand and wipe away the dust with a slightly damp towel.

Step 4: Using scrap paper, trace the surface of the cheese dome base. Cut it out and use it as a stencil to cut out your pretty paper.

Step 5: Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the surface then lay down your pretty paper. Work out any air bubbles, then add a layer of Mod Podge on top of the pretty paper. I did about 3 layers (make sure to let dry in between each layer.)

Step 6: Determine the center spot on the bottom of the cheese dome by using some math wizardry skills then hot glue the candle holder to that center spot.

TA-DA! Cheese-Dome-Turned-Not-So-Cheesy-Cloche-Pedestal!

I like to do projects in bulk so I did two others at the same time:

These can be left empty or used to display: jewelry, cupcakes, baked goods, family heirlooms, fruit, figurines, seashells or coral, succulents, holiday décor (bulbs, bottle brush trees, Easter bunnies, pumpkins, etc.), perfumes, nail polish, sunglasses, baby’s first shoes, and of course…cheese.
