The Goodwill Sections I Never Skip During Summer

Every season seems to have its own thrifting rhythm, and my shopping habits tend to change right along with it. Whether I’m looking for craft supplies for a lazy afternoon or glassware for a backyard gathering, there are a handful of sections that move to the top of my browsing list every summer. These are the areas I never skip when I’m thrift shopping this time of year.

Stationery & Arts / Crafts
Don’t let this section sneak by you! I love digging through the miscellaneous arts, crafts, and stationery items. I look for supplies and materials for our art cart, creative projects, birthday parties, crafternoons, or rainy days.

Sporting Goods
In the summer, I always keep an eye out for things like baseball gloves, rackets, balls, yard games, scooters, pool bags, and outdoor equipment.

Kids Swimwear
Kids outgrow swimsuits so quickly that it makes sense to check secondhand first. I like to pick up a set or two every time I’m out thrifting to keep on hand for summer camps, pool days, and vacation.

New Goods / Overstock
Many Goodwill locations carry Target overstock items. I always make a point to check here during the summer for everything from gifts, party supplies to seasonal items.

Seasonal
I don’t spend a lot of time here, but I do take a quick peek to find off-season discounted seasonal and holiday items most people are overlooking this time of year.

Housewares
I never skip housewares all year round, but I like to spend extra time here in the summer to look for things that can be used for planters, trays, pitchers, colorful glassware, and other outdoor entertaining pieces.

The best part about shopping for summer is that you’re often thrifting for experiences, not just stuff. The next time you’re thrifting, consider taking a few extra minutes to explore a section you normally skip. You never know what seasonal treasure might be waiting there!
